Chinese New Year will be celebrated on Saturday, January 25, 2020 and marks the beginning of the year of the Rat. Also known as the “Spring Festival” in modern Mainland China, it is China’s most important traditional festival.

The Spring Festival public holiday starts on Chinese New Year and lasts for 7 days. Most businesses close 3 – 4 days prior to the New Year holiday to allow staff to travel home for the holiday. This means that, in general, production will cease from around January 22 and re-commence on February 3, 2020.  Do give consideration to the timing of this as the shut-down also affects shipping, with bookings congested immediately prior to and again after the public holiday period ends.

As the peak season continues to be strong ex-Asia, we continue to see pressure on space, with significant delays at trans shipment hubs being experienced. Booking early is imperative to ensure space, but also allowing additional lead time on any products to ensure that they arrive into New Zealand on time.
