If you’re an importer, we don’t need to remind you that it’s critical to have product on hand when you need it. Imagine what would happen if you were entering your peak business period and your products were still in a container, on a ship, in the middle of the ocean...
The recent changes to the shipping industry have alerted us to potential delays and space shortages for imported goods. But there are other factors, such as international holidays, which could add further delays to getting your products on-time.
Like all other countries, China has major holidays, the most significant being Chinese New Year. The date of this holiday changes each year, factories shut down, staff go on holiday and so forth. This creates delays for placing orders, processing payments and getting goods shipped. With fewer ships coming to New Zealand, we expect holidays such as this one to create backlogs. You can expect deliveries that usually take four to eight weeks to extend by another four weeks at the minimum.
Similarly, when America goes on holiday, all international payments go on hold until the US banks open again for business. If you need to make a critically timed payment, this is a recipe for a major headache.
To help mitigate these problems, we’ve implemented a calendar with key dates, international holidays and shipping alerts to help you get your products when you need them. We recommend you view our calendar well in advance of making an order so you don’t get caught by delays.
